Excavator Drawing – Step By Step Guide With Pictures

This tutorial will delight all big and small excavator fans. Step by step, you will succeed in drawing a complex technical device.

For the preliminary drawing, you need a hard, easily erasable pencil (e.g. H2 or HB). The best way to draw the final contours is with an eraser-proof pencil.

Step 1: Frame

You draw a square with the pencil.

Step 2: Area layout

Divide the square into four rectangles of different sizes, as you see on this template.

Step 3: Excavator arm

Now lay out the course of the boom with the spoon handle and the shovel using a few straight strokes. It is best to use a ruler for this.

Step 4: First details

Use the pencil to draw the first permanent contours on the paper. In the lower rectangle of the main square, draw the outlines of the undercarriage with the crawler track. In the middle part of the square, draw the driver’s cab. Then draw the boom and dipperstick.

Step 5: Bucket, wheels and cab

The excavator shovel and the wheels add further details. The template also shows you how to add more detail to the cab.

Step 6: Windows, hydraulic cylinders & vents

The drawing becomes technically more perfect. More and more details complete the picture. These are numerous filigree elements that ensure a professional appearance. Please follow the instructions carefully.

Step 7: Removing the guides

When all the details are set with the pencil, erase the guides. The square with the rectangles disappears. You can be justifiably proud of the result.

Step 8: Coloring

You take the colored pencils and color the excavator. On the template, the excavator is yellow. You also need blue paint for the windows and various shades of gray.
